MINIBIBLIOTECA MANUELITA SACASA

The Minibiblioteca Manuelita Sacasa was created as a project of Nicaragua Education Cultures and Arts Trust (NECAT), a British social organization dedicated to improving access to quality education among impoverished children living in Leon and its surrounding neighborhoods. Named after the local poet and cultural promoter Manuela Sacasa de Prego, the Minibiblioteca not only offers educational workshops and activities to local students, but it also provides a space and supportive environment in which children can receive homework help and pursue their academic interests.

In August 2012, Quetzaltrekkers began supporting the “Móvil”, one of the Minibiblioteca’s most successful initiatives. Using a portable library called the Móvil, Minibiblioteca employee Wilfredo leads educational seminars in various public and private schools throughout Leon.  Covering topics selected by the host schools, the seminars are designed both to raise students’ enthusiasm for learning as well as to provide local educators with new teaching strategies and ideas for their classes.

How QT helps

The “Móvil” is in high demand among local schools, and Quetzaltrekkers is excited to be funding Cytnhia’s salary and educational materials for the library. QT volunteers also participate in the Móvil’s seminars and assists students with their homework at the Biblioteca
