QT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

In the spring of 2012, Quetzaltrekkers was approached by Maria Mercedes Ortiz, a local social worker based in Leon. Having worked with several needy families throughout the city, Maria witnessed that numerous children were unable to attend school as they lacked the financial resources to afford the necessary books, uniforms, transportation, and other school supplies. To fix this issue, she approached various local and international organizations to seek money to provide scholarship money to these children. She facilitated meetings between Quetzaltrekkers and several local families, and thus the QT Scholarship Fund was created.

How QT helps

Scolarship project - Quetzaltrekkers Leon
Currently, Quetzaltrekkers provides twelve scholarships to children in Leon. These scholarships cover the costs of uniforms and other school supplies. In order to maintain these scholarships, the students must maintain high grades and their parents must demonstrate their support of their children’s studies. Quetzaltrekkers is very excited about these scholarships, as they mark the first initiative in which QT works directly with local children, instead of working through another organization. We hope to expand the number of available scholarships in the future, and we look forward to growing our relationships with the recipients and their families.
